Catch up on the Shophouse market with our latest report. For 2023, an estimated 133 shophouses worth $1.2 billion changed hands and the most popular districts with buyers were 8, 14, 1, 12 and 15. Buying interest shifted to District 8 as the quantum is more affordable. Strategic investors remained focused on 999-year leasehold and freehold shophouses for wealth preservation.
Total number of rental contracts for shophouses in 2023 were 2.0% higher than a year ago. The median rents of shophouses were estimated to have increased by 8.7% last year due to higher demand from businesses.
Shophouses in city fringe locations are forecasted to see more interest among investors in 2024. With a rosier economic outlook and higher tourist arrivals expected, there may be higher leasing demand for shophouses in 2024.
